I had the same problem a year or so ago.

More recently, I tried early Windows ports of gcc 4.1 and had other problems. But they were C++ conformance problems that probably could be resolved. Gcc 4.2 is apparently close to release for MinGW, so we will have to deal with this pretty soon. What I am worried about is if SWIG-generated code fails to compile with gcc 4.2. We'll just have to see.
