Update:
I just tried -b4096 and -B8192; no difference.

For unknown reasons, my internet connection (router) always wants to 
reconnect, but this doesn't really make a difference. The rhythmic breakup 
is at approx. 3 per second.

I meant to say, also, that latency is no issue here.
