Really, all music is sine waves, in some combination, is
that not so? I thought it might be fun to start with a
common orchestra with a single pair of oscili reading
sine tables, one for the left channel, and one for the right.
It would then be up to the score to make an interesting
piece. We could have a sort of gentlemen's contest
to see what might be done with this bare common orchestra.

Of course, I have score generation programs in mind.
What can be done with a combination of sinewaves?
Does anyone have any interest in finding out?

Thanks,

Tobiah

the another extreme from where music can be seen is the pulse:
Your statement from the other extreme is: "Really, all music is a filtered pulse, in some
combination of changing filters, is that not so?"

both are limit cases: any (recorded) music can be represented as an
*infinite* number of sines, or an *infinite* number of filters.

since we are limited to a finite number of parameters, these
representations actually give different results, and each presents its
own spectral distortion (e.g. when compared to some recorded music it
would want to resynthesize).

is that correct ? or is it possible to get the exact same sound from
both techniques ?
