[Csnd] New stuff at NAMM

Subject[Csnd] New stuff at NAMM
A bit of buzz about this over the weekend:
http://cycling74.com/story/2009/1/15/112356/711
There are some videos at ableton.com that show it off a little. Makes
me wonder about the csound for max stuff and will it work with Max for
Live. I would really love a Csound for Max for Live. For Windows.

also they say that max externals are supported in maxforlive. This
means that csound~ external should run in maxforlive. Great!

I use csound~ in Max all the time. It is fantastic. Can't wait to try it
in this new Live4Max environment.

What is exciting in the video at ableton.com is how you can be editing
a Max object while Live is still playing. That's what made me wonder
about how csound~ would work with it. Is there a csound~ for the
Windows platform? Or has Max been a Mac only product up to this point?

I hope csound~ works with Max4Live without a hitch.  I haven't been
into live since version 4, and I'm not sure I'm going to upgrade to 8 (I'm
saving every penny I can for a pacarana). So, if someone could post
their experience with the combo when it comes out, that'd be great!

P.S. I double posted earlier today; sorry about that.

Dear cSounders,

I am using the buzz opcode to create low density impulses, but I get strange sweep like artifacts. At first I thought this was because of the frequency modulation I use (to get density changes), but even without it the artifacts are there.
Does anybody know how to avoid them ? Or is there maybe a better way of creating clean random pulses ?

Yes, I did, doesn't seem to have any effect on it whatsoever.
Even lower kr values do not make it worse, so I guess it's not related to that.

Hi,

What you describe is expected. The buzz opcode adds harmonics, and
since the harmonic just appears suddenly at full amplitude, so you
will hear the harmonics appearing. Maybe what you want is a buzz
opcode with many harmonics, and then use a low pass filter?

Cheers,
Andres

Thanks- this is a workaround I figured out (well your's is more elegantly written), but I'd like to call different instruments in the same orchestra according to note number/note number region, and call them, or note call them before they are calculated, as they are quite heavy on the CPU.

Ideal would be (in crude pseudo code):
if (note number region X), then instr 1
if (note number region Y), then instr 2

Part of the reason for the desirability of this approach is
the power of having a library of instrument "presets" to
copy-paste.

Did you try using control rate at sample rate?

Dear cSounders,

I am using the buzz opcode to create low density impulses, but I get strange sweep like artifacts. At first I thought this was because of the frequency modulation I use (to get density changes), but even without it the artifacts are there.
Does anybody know how to avoid them ? Or is there maybe a better way of creating clean random pulses ?

Here's the instrument:

<CsInstruments>

; Initialize the global variables.
sr = 44100
kr = 4410
ksmps = 10
nchnls = 1

; Instrument #1.
instr 1
  kamp = 30000 * p4
  ifreqmin = p5 ; these freqs control the density of pulses
  ifreqmax = p6
  imodmin = 0.05
  imodmax = 1
  ifreqdiv = ifreqmax - ifreqmin
  kmod jspline ifreqdiv,imodmin,imodmax
  kfreq = kmod + ifreqmin
  knharm = 22050/kfreq ; find maximum harmonic below niquist
  ifn = 1

  a1 buzz kamp, kfreq, knharm, ifn
  out a1
endin

</CsInstruments>

f 1 0 16384 10 1

; Play Instrument #1 for one second.
; p4 = amp p5 = freqs
