[Csnd] STKSitar problem

Friends:

I've been trying to use the STKSitar opcode recently and ran into a sort of feedback overflow clipping sort of problem.  The attached csd illustrates the problem; it starts out fine but ends up with screaming feedback (so be careful playing it!)

If I shorten the duration of each note to 0.1, so each note plays monophonically, there is no problem. But as soon as there's any sort of overlap -- even 0.11 by the bottom of the 3rd pattern repetition -- there's feedback/overflow.

Can I really not use this instrument polyphonically? Is this a problem with all the STK opcodes? Is there a workaround for this issue?

Forrest

I have not seen this problem with other STK opcodes, and i use them quite a bit.

I just fixed my STK opcoded recently by installing the rawwaves from https://ccrma.stanford.edu/software/stk/ and setting correct PATH's.

The sound changed and improved! The instructions for how to install STK rawwaves needs to be updated in the manual.

Maybe that's the reason it sounds bad?

I'm using the packages for Debian unstable, and the STK version is 4.4.4, which isn't the latest but is only one version behind. Was the change in STK sound quality that recent?

I'm also interested to know whether anyone else can reproduce my problem, or if my machine is just haunted.

No, I didn't have any STK version. So I would not know if there's a
difference. But I have 4.5.0 now.
