[Csnd] ALSA, OLPC & USB MIDI

Alsa-project.org states that "all USB [MIDI devices] that are standards compliant will work." (and further, that if they don't, to let them know!) Does this mean that, under ALSA, all compliant USB MIDI devices should work with OLPC and OLPCsound? And should this include all (true) class-compliant USB devices under Windows and Mac? (Still looking for some insight/guidance as to what MIDI devices should work with OLPC.) Art Hunkins |

Art, On my OLPC - YES all compliant devices will work. This means (and I recommend) M-Audio Trigger Finger (lost of sliders, pads, and knobs that you are looking for) This also mean the M-Audio Oxygen 02 and any of the newer Oxygen8 Keyboards (Both of which I use with the OLPC) This means that the earliest version of the Oxygen8 (which I have - does NOT work with the OLPC.) Good luck. -dB On Jul 24, 2008, at 3:25 PM, Art Hunkins wrote: > Alsa-project.org states that "all USB [MIDI devices] that are > standards compliant will work." PS Art ..... The RollUP USB Keyboard that David Recommended (and I have one) does NOT work with the OLPC or any other commercial MIDI device - it doesn't really do standard MIDI, but rather only works with it's on Windows included little software.... Good for Circuit Bending and some MaxMSP or PD hacking. -dB On Jul 24, 2008, at 3:51 PM, Dr. Richard Boulanger wrote: > Art, > > On my OLPC - YES all compliant devices will work. > > This means (and I recommend) M-Audio Trigger Finger (lost of > sliders, pads, and knobs that you are looking for) > This also mean the M-Audio Oxygen 02 and any of the newer Oxygen8 > Keyboards (Both of which I use with the OLPC) > This means that the earliest version of the Oxygen8 (which I have - > does NOT work with the OLPC.) > > Good luck. > > -dB > > > On Jul 24, 2008, at 3:25 PM, Art Hunkins wrote: > >> Alsa-project.org states that "all USB [MIDI devices] that are >> standards compliant will work."
