Ok this doesn't really involve csound but what the heck. is there any way to rip the audio off of that video? I wasn't sure since it's embedded. My plan was to sample it for a song.
btw what do you guys think of this |

Ah, solar activity is indeed a fascinating phenomenon :-) I read "Sunstorm" by Arthur Clarke and Steven Baxter this summer, and the predictions of "unprecedented levels of magnetic energy" in 2013 is oddly in accord with that story .... hum, hum ... ;-) It sounds to me like what they've done on the video is some sort of FFT based (re)synthesis, directly mapping the variations in light onto frequency/amp/time. The sound on the video reminds me of the sounds you can get from image-to-sound synthesizers like Coagula and Metasynth, but done on moving pictures instead of still images. Maybe you can use one of those applications for generating the sounds you want, or even contact the Sheffield group and hear if they'll give you access to some code and data. best Oeyvind 2010/8/18 John Colgrove |

Couldn't do any harm to ask them directly. It is a little surprising the sounds are so short. They must have lots more sitting on their shelves, so to speak. It is nice to see that on the "related articles" list they put the LHCsound project at the top (some sounds created by yours truly, using Csound!); this could set a useful precedent for Sheffield to make their sounds freely available, in the general cause of public "outreach". Several artists have already posted various tracks online using LHCsound sounds one way and another, so the appetite for cool physics sonifications is definitely whetted! You can reroute things internally with jack and soundflower. But I'd take the advice and just contact them. I concur, best to contact them... but for other non-copyrighted things all you've got to do on windows is crack open audacity, set input to stereo mix and away you go. Oh and remember in the windows audio input devices to select stereo mix too rather than the mic. Rory. On 19 August 2010 00:05, Peiman Khosravi |

Other than the copyright issues that may be involved, you can always mic the speakers, or do a line-in to some recorder from your speaker outs. --David Mooney > http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/space/7840201/Music-of-the-sun-recorded-by-scientists.html > > > Ok this doesn't really involve csound but what the heck. is there any way > to rip > the audio off of that video? There's a sample on SoundCloud here: http://soundcloud.com/university-of-sheffield/sound-of-the-sun No download, but maybe it will help you get in touch with the right person.
