UnTwelve proudly announces the 2nd annual composition competition, open to all ages and all nationalities. First prize is $400.00 USD We invite any composers interested in writing a 5-10 minute work (with appropriate specifications of tuning) before Dec. 15th to peruse the rules and regulations as posted online at the UnTwelve website: http://www.untwelve.org/2010_competition.html From there you may register you email address with us and complete your online application and eventual audio file upload. Feel free to spread the work of this competition far and wide. We are interested in spreading the reach of our mission, and as such welcome the ability to encourage composers out of our normal communicative reach! We look forward to hearing your work! Best, The UnTwelve crew http://www.untwelve.org |

Hi again, Aaron. Awesome! I strongly support and appreciate the acceptance of only audio format, no scores. It would be an unnecessary headache to come up with some kind of score. When you say "appropriate specifications of tuning," would that just be like saying "This piece is in n-limit just intonation"? I ask because I like to compose with free modulations, meaning I don't establish a specific scale to use beforehand. Thanks for your hard work in promoting the cause. -Chuckk On Fri, Aug 27, 2010 at 7:12 PM, Aaron Krister Johnson <aaron@akjmusic.com> wrote:

That's very cool, I do maqam music and have been working on some electroacoustic pieces with csound and my ouds. On Sat, Aug 28, 2010 at 9:27 AM, <akjmicro@gmail.com> wrote: Chuckk, |

One acoustic that was made in egypt, one electric that was made down in OC by Vikram Najarian, and then my Cumbus oud. The first two use the bedouin style tuning while the cumbus uses a turkish tuning. I play quarter tones. Its not quite as deep as the turkish comma based system where you have potentially 9 different commas between each half step. On Sat, Aug 28, 2010 at 12:02 PM, Victor Lazzarini |

Nice! A bit OT, but, what do you think of those Godin 11 string guitars? I fancied one of those. http://www.godinguitars.com/godinglissentarp.htm Victor On 28 Aug 2010, at 20:18, Brian Redfern wrote: > One acoustic that was made in egypt, one electric that was made down > in OC by Vikram Najarian, and then my Cumbus oud. Their fretless nylon string classical is even more interesting because it has a built in roland plug so you could control csound patches in realtime with microtones on the fretless guitar. I played this one at Mcabe's but I like the electric oud better because it preserves the oud intonation. On Sat, Aug 28, 2010 at 12:32 PM, Victor Lazzarini |
