I thought multichannel ogg files were creatable directly from Csound. What
exactly is your problem?

Hi J,

For various reasons, including: the size (eg sent via email) and greater
safety in the performance (sometimes the files are placed in a wrong
channel), I would get a single compressed file quadraphonic (mp3).

I know that I would rather replace it with four single compressed file
(mp3).

When I last needed quad MP3 i simply split the quad WAV file and then
encoded each track.  Simple to do with Audacity or even the mixer utility
and lame

yes ogg is a psychoacoutically lossy compression lik emp3
But it is not hung about with patent clainms and aggressive lawyers.  It
is incorporated in libsndfile and is often claimed to be higher qualkity
that mp3.

As far as i have been able to tell ogg is limited to 256 channels.
Not tried it my oggenc should handle it, ot atleast v2 of oggenc.

Very likely that libsndfile will work directly, but not tried it.

Someone must know or have time to try....

Just realised I has a 4-channel WAv file on disk so I tried oggenc on it
-- no problems thta I can see, and sndfile-info says 4 channels.

So yes, ogg is good, multichannel and available
