Subject[Csnd] Online Csound meetup - May 2020
Hello everyone :)

My name is Edith and I am organizing an online meetup for Csound users - you are invited!

This friendly, informal meetup will be held on May 30th 2020, on the Internet, starting at 9am PDT.

Submit a talk!
We want to have interesting talks, for different levels of expertise and from different backgrounds - please submit your idea for a presentation before this Saturday May 23th, noon PDT.

Your presentation can be about any Csound-related topic. As general examples, here are some of our ideas: you could showcase a work of yours and talk about the csound
concepts involved in it, do a small livecoding session to demonstrate a novel usecase, or talk about creating new instruments in Csound.

We are planning on having 3-4 talks, of about 10-15 minutes each - for an hour long meetup.

Please send the proposals to Edith at finartcialist@gmail.com or find me on Slack (@finartcialist) if you have any question.

Thank you for your interest - and thanks to Steven Yi for helping me give shape to this idea.

See you in the Slack #meetup channel !

Hi, still looking for a web conference room? The university here paid for
Webex services, and there's a room I can use. I don't know how well it
performs, never used it myself. But I can find out. Any idea how many
people would participate?

What is PDT? If this aims to be an international event, wouldn't it be
more appropriate to announce the time in UTC?

Let me know if you are interested, and I can schedule the meeting.

PDT is Pacific Daylight Time (e.g., Vancouver, BC, CA).  The time should be 16:00 UTC.

Well, I think that unless the event is intended to be for the USA only (or
North America), the time for the meeting should be announced in UTC. Each
one will know what that means in their local time.

Yes, I agree. I think it won't be a problem for future meetings. :) BTW: I had talked about the time with Edith and we arrived at that time as it seemed reasonable for people around the world to attend. Certainly the goal is to have it open for everyone.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for the initiative, looking forward to! I would be happy to stay also for longer time than just an hour in the meeting. If there are more topics to cover, I guess it could be easily also longer.

Would you consider a simple Google Forms or similar for registration -  so you will have more data who is coming, submitting?

Thanks again!

Happy to do a 15-minute talk, or none at all, and just come along for the meeting.
I do agree with Tarmo, that a sing-up would be nice AND that the meetUp should probably last for longer than 1 hour - maybe an hour of presentations and an hour of general discussion (RoundTable)
- topics for discussion?

Wanted to express my interest in this, don't really have anything to present but would be super cool to have a chat with other csound heads, so particularly love Richard's idea of a round table!
