[Csnd] ampdb and 0dbfs

Subject[Csnd] ampdb and 0dbfs
I'm trying to adapt the example for the fof opcode in the manual. However,
this example assumes 0dbfs=32767, and uses ampdb. The explanation for ampdb
in the manual makes no reference to the possibility that 0dbfs might be 1.0,
and I'm not even sure that matters, except that I'm hearing clipping.

In addition, the explanation of how ampdb works (on its own manual page)
uses positive values for the input, while the example on the fof page uses
negative values for the input.

Not being a math major, I don't understand how this all fits together.

Given the values for the db of formants in Appendix D of the manual, how
exactly would I produce formants of the proper amplitudes when 0dbfs=1?

Thanks in advance!

perhaps using ampdbfs instead of ampdb?
