Subject[Csnd] hardware
Dear community,
it seems that my old laptop will die in a few days.
So I would like You to ask is:
what do You think are are the requirements for a computer that runs with csound.
I should mention that I use it mostly for realtime patches, e.g. triggering csound by a midi-keyboard.
How important is in Your opinion ram?
Which other hardware features are also important in Your opinion?
I should also mention that I prefare Linux as OS.

Bus speed, cache size, processor speed. Ram if you use large tables (ie. storing sound files in memory). HD speed if you use disk input at run time. Having Firewire ports is good if you want to use a decent sound card on a laptop with Linux (given the iffy USB2 audio / Linux situation).

usb1.1 is almost always fully Linux compatible, and has poor latency and cannot do more than 4 channels (combined in and out) at a reasonable sr

for usb2.x you need one of a few specific cards to make it work, and I am not sure which those are at the moment (and many are only partially supported)
