Dear Csound users,

This is just a quick announcement for the availability of the OM2Csound 2.0 library on IRCAM forumnet.

OM2Csound allows you to use the OpenMusic computer-aided composition environment as a front-end for the design and parameterization of Csound processes, and to run Csound synthesis from inside OM visual programs.

OpenMusic and OM2Csound can be downloaded for free at the following pages:

Hi,

Thanks for the announcement. Is there any documentation on how
orchestras and Csound instruments are created with OM? (I use linux,
so unfortunately can't try it out myself).

Cheers,
Andrés

Unfortunately not.

OM currently runs only on Mac and Windows.
I should have mentioned that (sorry)

Hi,

There is no recent, complete documentation unfortunately but the library comes with a couple of simple tutorials, which are probably enough to start using OM2Csound (at least for someone already familiar with Csound).

When the library is installed the tutorials can be imported to the OM workspace as described here : http://support.ircam.fr/docs/om/om6-manual/co/Tutorials.html
(menu Help/Import Trutorials/Libraries/OM2Csound/)

Every individual function of the library is also documented in the library 'reference' pages (access typing 'd' on a selected box in the OM patches).

Basically, OM2Csound tools allow you to format and write Csound scores using algorithmic processes and/or musical data, and orchestras using graphical modules corresponding to a subset of the Csound main opcodes.
Both parts can also directly be written as text: actually users generally use OM2Csound mostly for generating the score part (that was the primary purpose of the library).
You can then use 'csound-synth' to run csound and instantiate a 'sound' object (in turn embedded in further processing in OM, etc.)
