Hey hey,
I just released a new electro-acoustic "composition"/impression, called 
"Hatched from an empty shell":

It is based on field recordings, physically modelled effects and synthesized 
sounds. Samples were cut externally, the rest was done in Csound. It's another 
binaural piece.

The inspiration is twofold: 1. I simply love stairs and spaces 2. on BBC radio 
a drama by the title of "Up and down in Silvertown" was broadcast. The title 
itself and the summary struck a chord.

What happens when a space made for living is abandonned? How does it feel?

Yes, it's the hrtfearly and hrtfreverb, using the m_3d_suite which I
released some time last year. It makes managing them a little easier for
me. :)

OK, all these were recorded with a Zoom H4N handheld recorder in 44.1kHz
and - for the purposes for this piece - converted to 48kHz using
zresample with the Lipschitz dithering algorithm.

The "staircase up" sample wasn't used in this piece, although originally
intended. It would have been to busy. Both up and down were recorded at
Paderborn university, H tower (7 1/2 / 8 1/2 satoreys, depending on the
stairwell). A point of interest about this space is this: the top floors
(down to level 5) is one stairwell around an elevator, at level five it
is joined by extra space and another stairwell, around another elevator.
One or two levels down further, another stairwell joins it. At the
bottom even a further huge corridor opens up. Also at ground level the
floor is made from something like cobbled stones to further change the
acoustic.

This set of samples will be available for a while. I will put a note of
warning on the main page at
http://juliencoder.de
before taking it down.

Hey hey,
I finally uploaded a "video" to youtube. Well, it's a still, but it shows the 
"most spectecular" level of the stairwell that I recorded the foot steps in. I 
made the photo myself, just the other day, so please excuse the adequacy. I 
did as best as I could. It's the third storey, where three stairwells unite. 
You can just about see two of the elevator doors, that the stairs wind around, 
in the picture. The last one would be to the far left, slightly behind me. On 
the next two levels it would only be two stairwells and then just the one that 
I went up and down, so many times. :)

I hope it gives you some idea of the real surroundings and not deter from the 
virtual surroundings too much. :)
