[Csnd] Another Question about Installation

Date2011-03-19 22:02
FromJim Aikin
Subject[Csnd] Another Question about Installation
The Windows Installer provides checkboxes for such components as C/C++, Lua,
and Python. There are no equivalent choices in the MacOS installer. Does
this mean the corresponding components are always installed with the Mac
version, that they're not installed because they're already present in the
OS, or ... something else?

Thanks for helping me understand this.

As a footnote, I'm very unsure what these components do. I don't really know
what an API is, in practical terms. I do know that you need to install, for
instance, the Python component if you want to "import csnd" into Python,
which I guess means that the Csound API is made available somehow to Python.

What I don't know is whether you also need to select the Python component in
the installer in order to run the py opcodes within Csound.

If someone has a moment to enlighten me on this subject, it would be a big
help. I don't plan to use Lua or C++ in conjunction with Csound, I just need
to know what these components are, and what they would allow one to do if
they were installed, so that I can add a few sentences of explanation to the
project I'm working on. Thanks!

yes, everything is installed, except for the Lua wrapper. On OSX,
csound is a
framework, which means a certain type of bundle installation,
containing everything
needed for it and its frontends to work.

You do need Python to be installed in order to use the Python opcodes.
