Subject[Csnd] OT max4live
Dear all,

I know that a few of you are using csound within max4live. Can a
max4live device have more than 2 outputs routed into, say, 6 speakers
or does live only deal with stereo outputs?

Thanks in advance,

Best,

Peiman

I believe Ableton Live only supports stereo output, M4L devices get added to the
signal chain. But Max supports as many outputs as your hardware
device can handle.

Ableton Live allows you to set up multiple outputs, discrete channels or as pairs.

Thanks for the replies both. I was hoping I could find a better way to
automate my max/Csound parameters. If I understand this correctly it
is not possible to have a csound instrument (e.g. using partikkel)
that has 6 or 8 outputs inside live.

What a pity.

Cheers,

Peiman

Yes, that is a pity... I understand now, you meant a multichannel out for m4l instrument like an instantiation of Kontakt multichannel gets in a Live track. Ought to request this feature in the next version/update...

The updates to Live and Max that came out yesterday are saying something about featuring multichannel output... not upgrading both this instant because I'm going to wait until after I've made a presentation next month of my Max software before I modify anything, but perhaps they have addressed this just as we are having this conversation!

"Max for Live now ships with six new Live Lessons (17 total) that will help you get started using the various features available in Max for Live. Explore cool Live API tricks, making your own LFOs, multichannel routing tools, and more in these clearly documented and interactive Lessons, complete with Max Devices and example sessions."
