Recently I heard about Tom Collins on the Society of Music Theory list.
Tom Collins' PhD dissertation consists of research on pattern-based music analysis and style-based algorithmic composition. At the first very hasty glance it appears to be a much more accessible version of the approach pioneered by David Cope. I mention this because I and others have experienced difficulties obtaining or running Cope's code.
I've always wanted to fool around with this approach to algorithmic composition, and this may finally drag me into Lisp land. The software runs on at least one freely available implementation of Common Lisp (Clozure Lisp).
Has anywhere here heard of, or played with, this stuff? Michael Gogins Irreducible Productions http://www.michael-gogins.com Michael dot Gogins at gmail dot com |
