Modeling paper (circa 1975) --> Stanford demo of Modeling at AES (Los Angeles circa 1992) -->

--> (circa 2000) Line 6 Modeling products --> Tone Core and a host of more modeling products
  |---> Julius Orion Smith III (Stanford's Modeling and digital waveguide guru)
      |---> other companies doing modeling effects

Modeling,.. think Stanford University, CCRMA, digital waveguides and J.O. Smith III.

The POD, modeling amps, effects (including Tone Core) and guitars of Line 6,... all
stem from that. Marcus Ryle and Michel Doidic of Line 6, just made modeling more
commercially viable and easy for musicians to use.

Making use of waveguide opcodes in Csound could be useful for emulations,
he base point or pad to build effects on top of. As a result, I like using
Csound waveguide opcodes when I can.

There's a pretty cool Developer's Kit for the Tone Core products, for those
inclined to build you own effects. PC platform only though, no Mac for it, so
that leaves me out.

Modeling,... it's all pretty cool.

This looks interesting(think Line 6 ToneCore):

Anyone who has ever written an audio plugin should find their JUCE
based 'c++ development framework' pretty simple to use. Of course it
doesn't look as impressive as MOD*, but it will certainly be cheaper
and looks a lot more robust.

Do they really use waveguides for their amp models ?
