Hi. I just wanted to get back in the CSound action, so I downloaded the Csound5.12.1.zip file from http://csounds.com/downloads.

Observations:
i) The readme-csound5-complete.txt file makes reference to /tutorial directories that don't exist.
ii) I don't see any application anywhere.  I remember years ago doing things in DOS like  csound orc.orc sco.sco.    No executable files!
iii) There's an installer directory with a Windows subdirectory.  Only thing there is a .NSI file, w hich doesn't do anything (even if you change its extension to .MSI).
iv) The other README makes a reference to installation instructions in  a /doc folder, but there's only a /latex directory with a doc that does nothing when I click on it. PDF or plain text is more advisable here.

FYI.

once and future noobie.

Is there a reason why you don't just use the windows installer? It's
available from sourceforge too?

If you want to install Csound binaries on Windows, use the Windows
installer from SourceForge
(http://sourceforge.net/projects/csound/files/csound5/csound5.12/Csound5.12.1-gnu-win32-d.exe/download).

The zip file is a source distribution, not a binary distribution.

Hope this helps,
Mike

Might there be an emerging reason to call it Csound5.12.1.src.zip?
