thanks - great to know and very useful, for instance for examples using
the filevalid opcode (which is after 5.12).
is this documented anywhere in the manual?

It is in the description of csd files (Unified File Format for Orchestras
and Scores)

Another little used feature is the  secton, also documented in
the same place.
