AttachmentsNone  None
I have posted a recent version of CsoundVST to my DropBox site as a shared file (https://www.dropbox.com/s/rrvjhprwrrlrm4e/Csound5.19-gnu-win32-vst-d.exe).

I had to remove my Web site because it was too much trouble to maintain, mainly on account of spammers. I have replaced the Web site which used to be at http://www.michael-gogins.com with a Tumbler blog at http://michaelgogins.tumblr.com/. The CsoundVST download can also be downloaded from there via http://michaelgogins.tumblr.com/CsoundVST.

Regards,
Mike

Subject[Csnd] Re: [Cs-dev] CsoundVST (and my Web site)
Thank you! I know it can be a lot of work maintaining Csound on
Windows so I appreciated these releases a lot especially since I've
been unable to find a suitable linux-based DAW. Most of my experience
is in Pro-Tools and I've been looking for VST alternatives this week.
I was excited about Ardour 3 being released but it still has more
issues than I'm willing to deal with, even for free software. My
response was to spend the $100 on Cubase Essentials. It looks like
I'll be keeping my Windows install around for a while longer which is
a bummer, but I'm very excited about using Cabbage and Csound VST with
it!

Thanks again!

Cheers,
~ andy.f

SubjectRe: [Csnd] Re: [Cs-dev] CsoundVST (and my Web site)
I hear you loud and clear Andy. I too struggle with Ardour. QTractor
is quite useable but lacks a lot of features. Renoise is, IMO, by far
the most professional of all audio software available on Linux, but
it's not everyone's cup of tea. Bitwig Studio looks like it might be a
game changer but I wouldn't hold my breath until its release.
Tracktion 4 was recently released. Development is back in the hands of
its original author, who is also the main developer behind the JUCE
class library, which is supported on Linux. So in theory it could be
ported to Linux, but again I wouldn't hold my breath. There is also
work going on at Cockos to bring Reaper to Linux. But from looking
through the user forums it's clear most users would rather the
developers spend their time improving the windows and OSX version.
Fear not however, soon you'll be able to write a pretty functional DAW
using nothing but Cabbage and Csound!

Hi,
Has anyone tried Reaper over wine more thouroghly? It works but I have tried it just a bit. And I have read there are ways to connect the output somehow over wine asio drivers to jack.

Yes there is a wine lib that connects wine to jack, and reaper works well with it. Reaper set up this way is definitely as suited to serious usage i as any other Linux DAW, and better than most.

If the performance is comparable to other native hosts, then this is a
revelation! I'll have to try it out.

I used Around for some hard core mixing with manual granular synthesis and beats and all. It's really nice. I tried doing the same stuff with Reaper and gave up after a week. Painful! But then if you're doing lots of midi, reaper is probably better.

today and I'm already loving it. What a fantastic program ...and
scriptable too!!! Thank you Csound community for introducing me to
it!

I have tried Ardour3 beta5 lately for some simple recording sessions. It crashes sometimes but is really nice! Hope it gets more stable soon. it has also midi tracks, but i did not try those. Reaper is good and cheap, of course.
