Hi, I've made four QuteCsound introduction videos. I hope this helps novices to explore Csounds possibilities, and gives a point where to start. I've installed Csound5.10-float-PPC-OSX10.4 and QuteCsound-0.4.1-OSX-PPC-noQt (I'm on an eMac running Mac OS X 10.4.11), but for some reason, every time I try to launch the QuteCsound app, it shows up in the Dock for less than a second and goes away again, and that's it. No error message or anything. Any thoughts? I think you might need the version with Qt, unless you have it in your system already. That was definitely right, yes! I had misunderstood the instructions and thought I should only get the Qt version if I had Qt installed. Thanks! I am running into some trouble with playback, though. If I use CoreAudio as the RT Audio Module, the first second or so chops up before it starts playing smoothly; but if I leave it as the default, portaudio, then the application quits when I press Run. Is portaudio something I would need to install? If so, is it what's at http://www.portaudio.com/ -- and would I get the last stable version from back in 2007, or the latest snapshot? (Also, the instructions seem to say I'd need to use XCode to build it; I was hoping to avoid installing the Developer Tools for this system. If it proves necessary for this purpose, I'd almost rather just figure out a workaround for the choppy CoreAudio -- two seconds of silence at the start of a file seems to do the trick, but that's a bit inelegant.) > I think you might need the version with Qt, unless you have it in your > system already. > > Victor > On 26 Mar 2010, at 15:45, cortaigne@mitb.net wrote: > >> I've installed Csound5.10-float-PPC-OSX10.4 and >> QuteCsound-0.4.1-OSX-PPC-noQt (I'm on an eMac running Mac OS X >> 10.4.11), >> but for some reason, every time I try to launch the QuteCsound app, it >> shows up in the Dock for less than a second and goes away again, and >> that's it. Hi, You shouldn't need to build portaudio as it should be installed when installing Csound. There's a way to know if Csound is crashing or if the problem is QuteCsound. Try running in the terminal. If you read a line that says segmentation fault there, then it's Csound crashing. If things run normally, then it's a problem with QuteCsound. Have you tried using portaudio and a different device? I just noticed the version used is quite old (0.4.1). It might be the problem, as the program was not that stable then. Hi Alex, Nice! I think it is good what you did about targetting a minutes worth of video, that way you keep peoples attention, and if anyone needs to see it slower, they can. Cheers, Andrés On Fri, Mar 26, 2010 at 12:44 PM, Alex Hofmann |

Alex WOW. These videos are wonderful, inspiring, super-clear, and incredibly helpful. I really appreciate how focused and concise that they are. I love that you always send them to the manual or the (many wonderful and powerful) examples that you, Joachim and Andreas have developed. On behalf of myself, my students, the entire Csound community, and the future Csounders that your work will surely inspire, I thank you, your collaborators and teachers for this wonderful work. I hope that you will do 100 more videos and write 100 more examples too! With Appreciation, Dr. B.
