[Csnd] ++SPAM++ QuteCsound 4.6 can't launch hetro analysis

Subject[Csnd] ++SPAM++ QuteCsound 4.6 can't launch hetro analysis
Hello,
I am using the latest csound for windows, under windows 7.  I am having two small problems.
First is, whenever i use the command line hetro util, i get a warning about FluidSynth: hetro.exe - System Error.  It complaines that the program can't start because python26.dll

hetro then works, and writes its output file after printing : "WARNING: could not open library 'C:\Program Files\Csound\plugins\py.dll' (-1)

The file is in this directory.

When i launch hetro from QuteCsound 4.6 (or even the version that ships with Csound 5.11), i get the python warning in the console.  Then it seems to start hetro.  I then get an error message about : number of output points is too great.  Analysis aborted.  I'm using the default values in the QuteCsound hetro launcher.

The, when i alt-tab to something else, QuteCsound disappears with no traces.

What can i do to fix these problems ?

It would be fun to get rid of the warnings and use the QuteCsound utils window.  I love QuteCsound.  Since it came out, i'm using Csound more.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

I haven't announced it since the release is not completely ready, but
can you try downloading version 0.5.0 to see if it fixes the problem?

Andrés

Thanks for the answer,
i still get the same error after upgrading to the 0.5.0 version.  I am using the floats version because i have the float version of csound install :
The app still crashes when i alt-tab from it after running hetro.  When using it to edit and render csound files, it works perfectly.  I can't manage to copy paste from the console window of Qutecsound.

cvanal works fine on the same files.  But the app quits by itself when i alt-tab.  I do not get the python warning when using cvanal from qutecsound but i get the warning when using the command line to use it.

I also changed the option "Run Utilities and Render using" External shell.  And it didn't seem to work at all.

Should i change my csound and qutecsound versions to the doubles version ?

I tried reinstalling both csound and qutecsound...

I'm a bit lost now on what i should try next...

Thanks a lot

Thanks for trying it. I'm not seeing this on OS X or Linux, so it's a
Windows problem... maybe someone else on Windows can have a look to
see if they can identify the exact problem?

The console issue was fixed after the release, so it will only appear
on the next release. In the meantime, you will need to copy by right
clicking on the console and selecting copy, as the menu item and
keyboard shortcut are not working.

Maybe you have several conflicting versions installed? Can you try
setting OPCODEDIR in the QuteCsound preferences (to the Opcodes
directory) to see if this improves?

Subject[Csnd] ++SPAM++ Re: ++SPAM++ Re: ++SPAM++ Re: ++SPAM++ Re: ++SPAM++ QuteCsound 4.6 can't launch hetro analysis
Hello Andres,
I made some progress.
First, i installed python 2.6.5 to get rid of the python warning i had with csound and Qutecsound.  It didn't help to fix the hetro problem though.

But i got rid of annoying warnings when using the hetro command line util from the command prompt.

I tried to set the opcode dir but it didn't seem to help.  I just had this computer and had only installed one version of csound.  I set the directory to the plugins directory of my csound installation.  Was that the proper thing to do ?

The only problem for hetro there was the default value for the start frequency.  It is set at 0 but the default in the csound manual specifies it is usually 100.  When i set it at 100, it fixed the problem.  So i feel a bit newbie now.  Oh well.

The 0.5.0 build seems to have lost the alt-7 key combination for opening the utilities window.  I tried to reset the default keyboard shortcuts and it brought it back.  However once i close Qutecsound, it loses those settings.

Also, after launching any utilities, if i alt-tab or switch to another app, Qutecsound closes by itself.

One last improvement suggestion, i am using the software on a netbook.  The screen resolution is 1024x600.  I can't see the OK and Cancel buttons on the configurations settings window.  Maybe it could be reorganised so netbook users could see it all.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me.  I love Qutecsound (and csound, of course).

Have a nice day

Yes, os x and windows users can only move their windows from the top

Hello Andres,

I tested the alt-tab bug on two different machines and it happens the same.  I added a bug on the csound bug tracker.  I see someone submitted the same bug a month or so ago.  It perhaps only happens under windows.

On the hetro util screen...

Version 0.4.6 gives the same message under my mac with OS X 10.6.  Seems the default value for the start frequency of hetro shouldn't be 0 but should be higher.  Otherwise i get a warning about too many analysis points (i don't have the message at hand right now)

I tried to reset preferences several times and it does work, until i close the app and open it again.  Tested it on two different windows computers.  I couldn't see the setting for the utilities screen in the keyboard shortcuts window.  (I see a total of 46 items in there)

Is there any way to inspect the preferences file ?  I couldn't find it.  Is there any way to gather crash info or enable some logging for qutecsound ?

Thanks a lot for all the help!

I fixed the bug in QuteCsound that was causing the crash. I am unable
to get HETRO to work on kickroll.wav, though. Can somebody post a
full command line that should work? ...I keep getting the following no
matter what I try:
---
hetro: number of output points is too great
	analysis aborted
---

Hello Andy and thank you for taking the time to fix the bug.

The error message you have on running hetro is likely to be caused by the default values in the qutecsound utility window.

Try changing the default start frequency to something like 100.  That's how i can get it to work here.  The default values in the dialog are not the default values of the hetro command line utility.

Have a nice day!

Ah, thank you! Changing the start frequency to 100 let hetro succeed
without error.
