[Csnd] Emulating chiptune chipsets?

For a retro music project, I was wanting to get "back to the roots," so to speak, by emulating classic video game console sound chipsets. However, it's proving difficult, as it's hard to find anything that exactly replicates the conditions of any classic console without actually being an emulator for that console, and I was hoping to be able to use higher-level constructs like MIDI to express my music. Has anybody here done this sort of thing, or have any suggestions? I know that I could sit down and build a bunch of triangle and saw waves, but I was kind of hoping that there would be something more convenient and timely. Thanks! -- When the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir? ~ Keynes Corbin Simpson |

Starting Feb 20th there is a Csound list thread that is called "8-bit sound advice" in which someone was wondering something similar. If you have been on the list for that long, check through the threads send to find that, you may find it useful. Jacob has written some nice instruments that deal with chip sounds, here's one: http://codehop.com/2600-synthesis/ Rory. On 27 February 2012 00:34, Sigi Mueller |
