Beginning Csound
July 28, 2008 @ NYC Resistor
1 Session, 3 hours, with personalized post-session project with instructor
via email.
Cost $75

Csound is the most powerful computer music language in the world, with a
direct lineage to Max Mathews' original Music-N languages. The focus of this
class will be a synthesis of three topics: The Csound language, synthesizer
theory, and composing weird alien music.

Together, we will demystify the assembly-like syntax of the Csound language.
We will cover the fundamentals of synthesizer theory, including:
oscillators, filters, envelopes, amplifiers and modulation. Finally, we'll
tie it all together by composing sounds in the vein of classic Sci-Fi
movies.

Dear Csounders,

This will be a fantastic course and I am so happy the Jacob is
offering it.

Hopefully you will all help to spread the word to your colleagues,
students, your family and friends in the NY area.

Jacob is a Csound master and a fantastic teacher - he is patient,
clear, insightful, and thorough.

He was a former student of mine at Berklee who won all sorts of
collegiate and national awards
when there. He went on to Stanford and Cal Arts for a masters
degrees in Computer Music.
He was one of the key assistants when I did the Csound Book and did
most of the work to develop
the CDROMS and the Website for MIT Press.

I am confident that beginners, intermediates and even advanced
Csounders would get a ton
from studying with him.

His Csound Blog is an incredibly wonderful and inspiring resource...
His articles in the Csound Journal have showcased a number of
powerful new approaches to working with Csound...

When Jacob was my student at Berklee, he was the best; when Jacob was
running csounds.com and working with me
on The Csound Book, he was a lifesaver; recently, his work on
OLPCsound has been an inspiration as well.

Over the past 8 years, Jacob has continued to grow in such impressive
ways that he is now one of my teachers!

So - I hope you all get a chance to meet him, to work with him, and
to know him.

that course must be webcasted, and questions/answers must be done in real
time, or by email.
It's time to begin this way of teaching/learning csound!!!!!!

Thank you for the kind words and ringing endorsement. Though it's not in my
DNA to take credit for things I haven't accomplished. For example, it was
the Mrs. that went to Stanford, and there are a few other friendly
exaggerations in there. :)

Best,
Jake
