[Csnd] blue - OSX version

Subject[Csnd] blue - OSX version
Hi All,

I've just put together an OSX specific version of blue that wraps
everything up into an .app directory. This makes it conform to OSX's
conventions meaning it shows blue's icon and can just double click it
to run. The file is blue_OSX_2.0.7.zip and is available at:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/bluemusic/files/

I'm testing this on OSX 10.6 so any feedback would be appreciated!

Thanks!
steven

I can get it started here, but since I have never used blue, I have
not yet managed to make any sound with it :(.

I imported a CSD and tried pressing play, but nothing happened. Then I
tried to render-to-disk an play from the file menu,
I got a dialog message saying the generated CSD name could not be
found. After that I had a 'rendering to disk' progress bar at the
bottom, with the indicator going from side to side, without stopping.
When I tried to stop it, it asked if I wanted to stop rendering and
after I clicked yes, the progress bar still carried on.

So, no sure really?

Hi Victor,

It sounds like it is working fine but just may need to be configured.
I am still working on figuring out how to get the API working with
blue and the Csound installer from Sourceforge, but setting
/usr/local/bin/csound in the Preferences/blue/Realtime Render settings
does work with the non-API method of rendering.

Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Steven,

For QuteCsound on OS X I use the sourceforge installers, so unless
it's a Java issue, I can give you a hand or you can see the code in
QuteCsound.

I'm curious, how are you doing this packaging? I currently have a
script that moves things to the correct place and fixes the linker
paths.

Cheers,
Andrés

When I select the api in the menu, blue still renders fine. Does this
mean that it is not using the api?

Thanks

SubjectRe: [Cs-dev] blue - OSX version
The blue.app is getting put together by the platform I am using to
build blue now (has a build-mac target), and I do a little
manipulation for custom stuff after that.

For windows and linux, the framework looks for native libs in the path
and I think it should on OSX too, but the path may not have the java
csnd .so or dylib. I think what I may do is hardcode for OSX to use
the dir structure setup by the installers. Will investigate later
today!

I'll certainly look at the plist and other things in the QuteCsound.app!

Thanks!

Subject[Csnd] Re: blue - OSX version
Hi Peiman,

I think I have blue currently falling back to use commandline
rendering if the API doesn't link and load up at runtime. You can see
if the API is really running or not if you can move the mixer sliders
to control output levels in realtime.

Thanks!
Steven

Hi Peiman,

I'm still trying to figure out the right settings here on this OSX
machine. Did you by chance compile Csound yourself?

Thanks!

Hi Steven,

No I installed the latest version with the installer. It might help if
you delete:
/Library/Frameworks/CsoundLib.framework/Versions/5.2/Resources/Java/
lib_jcsound.jnilib
&
/Library/Frameworks/CsoundLib.framework/Versions/5.2/Resources/Java/
csnd.jar
And reinstall Csound with the double version.

There should also be a link to (or copy of) lib_jcsound.jnilib in:

/System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.5.0/Libraries/
lib_jcsound.jnilib

Mind you I'm on Leopard so the problem might be snowleopard?

Hope that helps.

Best,

Peiman

Subject[Csnd] Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: blue - OSX version
Hi Peiman,

Thanks this is actually very, very helpful! I think this is the culprit.

On Snow Leopard, at least this machine, the version of Java that is
set as the default is Java 1.6, not 1.5. There is a convention used
for symlinking "Current" to the default JVM for the machine, I wonder
if the installer is hardcoded to install to 1.5. (I do see links in
1.5 on this machine)

Victor: I did not see installer files for OSX in CVS, but I also don't
know exactly what I'm looking for as I haven't built an installer on
OSX before. Are the files you use to build the installer in CVS? If
so I can look into what's going on and make modifications.

Thanks!
steven

Subject[Csnd] Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: blue - OSX version
Yes that'd be fine, though it'd be nice to have them in CVS to replace
what is in installer/macosx if possible. Either way, I'd be happy to
look at this on Snow Leopard to figure out if there's something better
we can do to get this working there.

Thanks!
