Hi List and Mr JJ, i was looking at last csd about BP intonation, but i get error segmentation violation with fragments_3, 5, 6, 7. I'm alone with that? I have not looked too much into these csd yet, and maybe it is my trouble. I am using csound 5.11, win vista, and my inability. Thanks, ciao, fran. |

Apparently, this bug is platform specific. I'm on OS X. So far, no one on OS X is reporting problems. I'm just waiting to see what other devs have to say before I move forward on this. I'll try to release fixes by the end of today. Best, Jake |

I have tried these csd's and it was failing earlier due to the bug with line continuations. I tried again yesterday and found a separate bug with chnclear that is now fixed. I'm now able to run fragments_7.csd so I think it's working now. (This is on WinXP). Latest from CVS should now work. On Wed, Feb 24, 2010 at 9:03 AM, Jacob Joaquin |

But there are opcodes that are invitations to crashes, like the "fast"
table opcodes. They are the reason that the STockhausen example is iffy
-- it crashes on Linux as it goes off the end of an array

I think these opcodes should contain protection. A simple check for
bounds would not slow them down significantly. I think not having
these check is a nasty hack (my opinion only).

I think the unchecked versions are an invitatuon to error, but it was not
discussed

Victor, John -
I'm surprised that there are STILL problems with the
Stockhausen_Studie_II.csd.
There was a bug in the first version. This bug was reported by John
and others. Andrés pointed out the line where the problem occured (it
was a typo which lead to a too large number of iterations).
So I coudl fix the bug. Then I sent it to the list and put it also
here: http://www.joachimheintz.de/soft/Stockhausen-Studie_II_engl.csd
When I run this csd in the Terminal (OSX 10.5.8), I get absolutely NO
perf error nor a crash.
If you still use the old buggy version, please take the fixed one.
If there is still a problem in the fixed version, please let me know,
so that I can try to find what's going wrong.
Thanks -
joachim
PS As to the tab versus table opcodes, indeed my reason for using the
tab opcodes was that they can handle non-power-of-2 function tables.
Meanwhile I'm not sure if the table opcodes aren't able to do the same
(I tested it, and it worked).
But I tested that the tab opcodes are indeed faster (ca factor 2 if I
recall correctly).
In the case of the Studie II example it's not that important, but on
the other hand: it was my fault to go off the table boundaries
(because of the typo), not the fault of the tab opcodes. So if my code
is correct, I can't see a reason for a boundary check (at least in
this case).

I just installed Csound 5.12.2, and now I get the same perf error as
Victor.
Under 5.11 there was nothing (why?).
I think I found the line in the code and will have a look tomorrow.

OK - I think I got it.
There were 5 hidden inconsequences like "pointing to index 25 in a
table of length 25".
Csound 5.12 (OSX) reported it correctly and quite helpful.
Csound 5.11 didn't report anything, so I couldn't see these errors
before (they had no consequences as the off-table-pointers weren't
actually used; just "prepared").
Actually I like the intolerance of Csound 5.12 at this point; it leads
to cleaner code.
If anyone could check if it runs now on Linux too, I'd be thankful.
I'll correct the widget version and the german versions later.
ciao -
joachim

web version did not

That's good to know, though I can't imagine what the difference might
be.
I'll remove the old versions and put the new ones later.

Hi Rene - thanks for your interest. I'm sorry that the sprintf statement does not work on your linux. Can you try to skip the space between d and f? So Sformat sprintf "%%.%df\t", iprec instead of Sformat sprintf "%%.%d f\t", iprec This should actually be more correct, and if it works, I can change it at the udo database and anywhere. Thanks - joachim Am 26.02.2010 um 16:28 schrieb Rene Djack: > Hi, > > On UbuntuStudio 9.10 32b and today cvs csound (5.12.?) > > Stockhausen-Studie_II_engl.csd from your attachment is now working > fine for audio. > > I just have incorrect printing of tables for example: > > FREQUENCIES (Hz): > %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f > %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f > %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f > %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f %.0 f > > It is the tables printed by TableDumpSimp and TableDumpSimpS udo. > These two udo have the line > > Sformat sprintf "%%.%d f\t", iprec > > This is not working on Ubuntu. | Hi Joachim, It works perfect on 5.12 last cvs with old parser. Thanks for your great advise. I like Stockhausen Studie and in general the work found in cs blog. it is a mine of tricks for a self-teaching csounder like me! Cheers, Rene 2010/2/26 joachim heintz <jh@joachimheintz.de> Hi Rene - |

Absolutely no problem. I'd be proud to be the author of the cs blog, too, but I am not ... Thanks for testing the "%%.%df\t", iprec format string. This is actually the better formulation, and I will correct it.
