| Thanks for the comments Art. It is funny... several people say they
really enjoy Parallax View. I almost deleted that file at one point. As
artists we are not always the best judges of our own work.
The spatial aspects of a composition are, to me, just as important as
the other more commonly prominent aspects such as frequency
relationships, duration, event density... etc... Parametric
counterpoint, a term intending the notion of an interplay between these
aspects, is a major determinate of the formal aspects.
The last piece on the CD, and the title cut, was my first native 3D
work. By that I mean that the csound orc and sco rendered a sound file
for 8 speakers and used Cartesian coordinates (x, y and z axis) to
determine the initial position of a sound within a cuboid speaker
arrangement. If a pfield in the score determined that the event was to
be dynamic, envelopes determine the path of the sound through the space.
So the speakers are set up in a dual quad arrangement with 4 on the
floor and 4 about ten feet high. It works really well and I will
continue moving in that direction. This is not using Ambisonics but
simply an extension of amplitude panning.
Good luck on your path Art.
