[Csnd] Better option for VSTi hosting?

Subject[Csnd] Better option for VSTi hosting?
I tried using Kontakt as a VSTi from csound. It worked,
but each time I play, the VST goes away, and I have
to reload all the samples again, which can take quite
some time.

When using csound this way, I'm not calling on any
other opcodes. My question is whether there is a
better choice of program that could host VSTi's and
allow me to render a score in a manner similar to
csound, but that does not exit after each performance
so that the VSTi can remain alive.

I'm also using Kontakt as a VSTi from Reaper, and sending
MIDI events to Kontakt from csound via a virtual midi patch
cable. That's pretty cool, but a little limiting. I can't
figure out how to detune individual notes in an instrument
for instance, without sending the pitch bend that seems to
affect all active notes.

Thanks,

Tobiah

Am i right in assuming you are trying to drive a plugin using a csound score rather than use csound as a plugin itself?

Maybe doing it in max or pd is easier?

I've never tried this, but would it be possible to run two instances of
Csound side by side? If so, you could run Kontakt in one instance and send
OSC messages from the other instance. Each OSC message could trigger a new
event (via an alwayson instrument), and the new event would have the desired
pitch.

It is possible to run multiple instances of Csound side by side. I do
this periodically to test the OSC opcodes on Windows. Several years
ago I tested that it was possible to run several instances of
CsoundVST side by side in the same host, that should still be possible
also.

Mike

That's thinking out of the box! A very interesting idea, I may give it
a go.

In that case I'm afraid I can't offer much help, but it sounds like
others have proposed some viable options. Good luck!
