[Csnd] MacCsound Not Launching

I've installed MacCsound on my 10.6.3 system, after upgrading to Csound 5.12.4. (At least, I think I upgraded. I ran the installer, but if there's an easy way in OSX to tell exactly what version you're running, I have yet to find it.) I also installed Rosetta from my Snow Leopard DVD, as instructed, and then restarted the computer. However, MacCsound 1.5 crashes consistently instead of launching. The readme for MacCsound advises that I need something called CsoundLib.framework, but gives no clue about whether that's part of the 5.12.4 installation or whether it's a separate download. And I haven't been able to spot a Csound directory containing any sort of subsidiary files of this or any other type. (On Windows finding installed files is pretty easy, but, you know, the MacOS is friendly, so they hide stuff where you can't find it.) Below is a crash report, which may or may not contain useful details. Suggestions welcome. --JA Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGTRAP) Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000 Crashed Thread: 0 Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread Thread 0 Crashed: Dispatch queue: com.apple.main-thread 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x8023656a __pthread_kill + 10 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x80235e17 pthread_kill + 95 2 com.sonomatics.maccsound 0xb80bfb30 0xb8000000 + 785200 3 com.sonomatics.maccsound 0xb80c0037 0xb8000000 + 786487 4 com.sonomatics.maccsound 0xb80dd8e8 0xb8000000 + 907496 5 com.sonomatics.maccsound 0xb8145397 spin_lock_wrapper + 1791 6 com.sonomatics.maccsound 0xb801ceb7 0xb8000000 + 118455 Thread 1: 0 libSystem.B.dylib 0x801402fa mach_msg_trap + 10 1 libSystem.B.dylib 0x80140a67 mach_msg + 68 2 com.sonomatics.maccsound 0xb819440f CallPPCFunctionAtAddressInt + 206231 3 libSystem.B.dylib 0x8016da19 _pthread_start + 345 4 libSystem.B.dylib 0x8016d89e thread_start + 34 Thread 0 crashed with X86 Thread State (32-bit): eax: 0x00000000 ebx: 0x802f74e0 ecx: 0xb7fff9ac edx: 0x8023656a edi: 0xb8211640 esi: 0x00000005 ebp: 0xb7fff9d8 esp: 0xb7fff9ac ss: 0x0000001f efl: 0x00000286 eip: 0x8023656a cs: 0x00000007 ds: 0x0000001f es: 0x0000001f fs: 0x00000000 gs: 0x00000037 cr2: 0x80236560 Binary Images: 0x80000000 - 0x8005bff7 com.apple.framework.IOKit 2.0 (???) <69E4FE93-376C-565E-650F-04FAD213AA24> /System/Library/Frameworks/IOKit.framework/Versions/A/IOKit 0x8007a000 - 0x800e4fe7 libstdc++.6.dylib 7.9.0 (compatibility 7.0.0) <411D87F4-B7E1-44EB-F201-F8B4F9227213> /usr/lib/libstdc++.6.dylib 0x8013f000 - 0x802e4feb libSystem.B.dylib 125.0.1 (compatibility 1.0.0) <06A5336A-A6F6-4E62-F55F-4909A64631C2> /usr/lib/libSystem.B.dylib 0x80364000 - 0x804ddffb com.apple.CoreFoundation 6.6.1 (550.19) <1E97FB1E-9E42-B8EB-E463-5C75315FDA31> /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreFoundation.framework/Versions/A/CoreFoundation 0x805d5000 - 0x805e3fe7 libz.1.dylib 1.2.3 (compatibility 1.0.0) <82B2C254-6F8D-7BEA-4C18-038E90CAE19B> /usr/lib/libz.1.dylib 0x805e8000 - 0x805f4ff7 libkxld.dylib ??? Enrico, I'm pretty sure that's the version I installed ... as I indicated in my first sentence. |

That is as you thought installed by the Csound installer, if you have
installed Csound 5.12.4 universal.

That's the version that pops up on the Sourceforge download page as the "latest version," so that's what I installed. Okay, installing Universal solves the problem. Thanks for the clarification. Are there any differences in performance or functionality between the Universal version and the Intel version? If not, why offer an Intel version at all? If so, what exactly will users be sacrificing in order to use MacCsound? I'm working on updating the Front Ends page in the manual, so I'd like to document this. --JA View this message in context: Re: MacCsound Not Launching Sent from the Csound - General mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

| The universal version is experimental. As it looks like it works OK, It will be the default version for 5.13. Victor On 2 Jan 2011, at 17:53, Jim Aikin wrote: On 1/2/2011 9:35 AM, Victor Lazzarini [via Csound] wrote: |
