Subject[Csnd] OT: soundcloud page
I've finally got around to uploading a couple of pieces on soundcloud.

Here's an older piece, one of the first times I used Csound to process
samples. Lots of pvoc stuff. I remember having to go out for coffee
breaks to let the old OS9 finish the analysis! And of course that's
when I discovered Brassage in Cecilia too.

http://soundcloud.com/peimankh/sets/acousmatic-works/

And some little exercises in morphing (voice, flute, bell). I never
could use them in a piece, you can guess why!

http://soundcloud.com/peimankh/sets/peiman-khosravi/

Best,

P

Nice pieces, very "EA".
And the morphing experiments work well to.

Thanks Oeyvind :-)

The last morphing is all done in diphone I think, that was clean and
easy. A combination of fof and partial interpolation.

The shorter ones are more crude. I basically did an ATS partial
analysis. Converted the tracking file to text. Took out one frame from
each sound. Then designed a bank of oscillators in csound and
interpolated between the frequency/amp values of the frozen spectra of
one sound to the other. The reason I did it by hand was because I
wanted to keep the common frequency values as pivot between the twp
spectra (I looked for relatively similar sounds in terms of pitch
content) and have the partials of the first sound to glissando to
their nearest frequency values in the second sound instead of a
generic interpolation.

The I mixed this interpolation with the original sounds in ardour or
somewhere. There may have been an intermediary pvs freezing too. Would
I do it again? No!!! It took ages and the result is actually not as
exciting as it should be. Bad value for money :-)

Best,

Peiman

Never mind, it does not appear to be in the mp3 but is somehow present
on soundcloud. For example at the end of the second morph exercise
you'll some distortion. That's not in the mp3.

It sound like compressor type crackling. Is this normal??

they re-encode everything uploaded to 128 kbps. That really does make
a big difference compared to 320 kbps. Not good news. I'd rather
tracks took twice as long to load but sounded better.

Yes, I always enable the download option so that people can get a
better-quality file. I also never upload anything less than 320 MP3,
and sometimes use 44.1/16 FLAC.

Yes but it seems that no matter what you upload they will convert it
to 128kbps MP3. Even if you upload an aif file (as I just tried) it
will still convert it.

I can't find an option anywhere to prevent the conversion.

Yes, unfortunately that seems to be the case, but at least if you allow
downloads the better version will be available.

Yes, I always enable the download option so that people can get a
better-quality file.  I also never upload anything less than 320 MP3,
and sometimes use 44.1/16 FLAC.
