[Csnd] Blind Users & Screen Readers

Subject[Csnd] Blind Users & Screen Readers
Mainly out of curiosity, though it does relate to a project I'm working on
... are there any blind or visually impaired Csound users who use a screen
reader while writing the code? If so, how is it working for you?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

You might not get a reply to this. I remember a guy that posted to this list a
while back who was blind and was complaining about all the Re's in the email
subjects. He might have moved on...

Search the Audacity mailing list, they have a few sight-impaired users
on the list who use some sort of screen reader. Since Csound code is
just plain text, I wouldn't think it would be much of a problem,
although I've never tried using any screen-reader myself.

We hjave had two regular sight-impared contributors. The other was Julian
Classen in Germany; I have sat with him while he used Csound, which was a
great learning experinece for me. Also Dr B had a blind student, which is
why winsound was revived, and it worked with text-to-speech.

Dear Jim and List,

The Jaws screen reader for Windows ( http://www.freedomscientific.com/jaws-hq.asp )
 - which is popular with blind students and faculty at The Berklee College of Music
does not work correctly with QuteCsound 0.6.0.

It does work OK with John ffitch's WinSound - which I why we should continue to distribute this also.

I am now working with Professor Chi Kim @ Berklee to see where we are at with the latest version of Jaws and QuteCsound

http://www.berklee.edu/news/2671/equal-access-for-blind-and-visually-impaired-stu

I will let you know how we make out over the next few weeks.
