| Csound can use high quality samples in the following ways:
1. The fluid opcodes encapsulate the Fluidsynth soundfount 2 player as a set of easy to use Csound opcodes.
2. The sfont opcodes make it possible to use the samples only (no key mappings or effects) from soundfonts in Csound.
3. Csound has lower-level building blocks for making your own samplers from scratch using soundfiles, function tables, phasors, and so on.
4. Csound (not the SourceForge installers, but built from sources) can host VST plugins, and there are excellent professional sample players available as VST plugins.
I have used all of these approaches. I find approach 1 and approach 3 to be the most useful. I have a feeling that approach 4 would lead to the highest-quality results if I was willing to buy a commercial sampling plugin. But the fluid opcodes work pretty well.

Mike
