The historical reason for this is that the .zip distribution (for Windows) 
was handled by Istvan Varga, who no longer is involved in Csound 
development. Noone has stepped up to take over this task - for one reason, 
because no developer seems to see it as particularly important.

I think part of Istvan's idea was to create a more compact and basic Csound 
distribution.

I personally was all for such a distribution, miss it now, and - like you - 
would value its return.

Any takers?
