| It's the second point that I'm concerned about. A license specified as a kind of footnote in the description of the piece isn't very apparent. By contrast, look at how explicit the license is on most web sites that serve CC content. Regardless, embedding the license in the file is a good idea.

I think the bottom line is (a) the license must be acceptable to the contributor, and (b) it must be clearly visible to the listener/downloader.
I would also advise contributors to embed their copyright and license text into their soundfiles.
