The right way to do this is probably:

1. Maintain an "install" target in SConstruct.

2. Create a "zip" target that zips up the "install" directory.

3. Create an "installer" target that unzips the zip file, then sets menus, environment variables, and paths, and satisfies 3rd party dependencies.

Really crazy waste of time that is easy to break (this is how we do things now):

Maintain 3 separate targets or scripts each of which creates the (hopefully) exact same install directory structure.
