Subject[Csnd] Csound on MacOS 10.5.6
Hi everybody,

I'm new to this list.

Could somebody direct me to a guide on how to install Csound for MacOS
10.5.6. Which installation package do I need and how to proceed?

I couldn't find a Csound list archive so I am sorry to be asking such
a basic question on this discussion group.

Hi David,

Do you have an Intel Mac or PowerPC Mac?

For an Intel Mac, you have two choices for download:

  Csound5.10-double-Intel-OSX10.4.tar.gz

  Csound5.10-float-Intel-OSX10.4.tar.gz

The "double" installer offers higher precision but slower rendering than the
"float" installer. It won't matter which one you choose unless you want to
use a specific GUI front end that only supports one. (eg. I think that
Steven Yi's blue front end requires the double version). A couple of
advanced features of these packages will require additional configuration or
may not work on OS X 10.5.

For a PowerPC Mac, you should download this package:

  Csound5.10-float-PPC-OSX10.5.tar.gz

(Note that there is also a PPC-OSX10.4 package -- the PPC-OSX10.5 one is a
little more compatible with Leopard).

All of these files may be found at

While you are at it, grab a copy of the Csound manual from the above link
and an appropriate version of QuteCsound too from this address:

After you download the appropriate Csound installer, just double click the
.tar.gz file and then double click on the Csound5.mpkg file that it
contains.
