Subject[Csnd] Alternative frontend to QuteCsound
I was using MacCsound, but now I just got a new Macbook with 10.5.7 and have installed Csound Lib 5.10 and QuteCsound.

I find some things missing that I enjoyed in MacCsound. I like it in MacCsound that when yo open the csd file, it splits the orc and svco file into two windows. When you open the csd file in QuteCsound the orc and sco are all in the one window.

I would like to find a frontend that is similar to MacSound in this vein. Are there alternatives to try? I could go bac to MacCsound, but then I have to reinstall the 5.09 Library and hope I dont come into any isses being on MacIntel. And seeing as no further development is happening with MacCsound it would be best to find and alternative frontend.

As far as I'm aware the only other frontend that splits things up
between score and orchestras is Blue.

Hi,

Yes, I've been quite tied up, so changes in QuteCsound happen very slowly, but it's not abandoned, yet.
The main issue with using MacCsound in an Intel machine is that performance will suffer significantly since you are running PPC binaries, which are translated to Intel using Rosetta.

Your idea is in the backburener of my mind, but it would be a significant change to implement it fully, however, I've been thinking about an option to split the text window (not exactly by orc and sco), but this will allow separate editing of different sections of the csd file. Not sure when/if this will happen though... (The source is there if any one wants to give this a go...)

Cheers,
Andrés

Thanks guys,

I am busy trying blue now. I like how it incorporates a timeline where you can add objects.

Coming from a DAW, it is nice to have this feature, so you can edit your score by dragging the objects to different places on the timeline, then exporting this out as a csd.

Looking forward to also getting more into QuteCsound in the future. I like it how it highlights errors in the syntax. `this makes it alot easier to troubleshoot a problem instrument or score.

Cheers,
Gary
