Thank you all once again for your help.

I've just received a mail from the producer. They asked me to fax them a
letter granting them non-exclusive SYNC, MASTER USE, PERFORMANCE and
VIDEOGRAM licenses for three tracks (they added another one: "Hope").

I can't afford a lawyer (and I don't think it would be worth anyway). So
I'm doing everything myself (writing the letter etc.)

If you're curious here's some info about the movie at imdb:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1130968/

They offered me a donation (don't know the amount, and no royalties),
plus possibly a second donation based on the success and the
distribution of the film.

This is the first movie for both the producer and the director. They
seem nice, and so I accepted.

Cheers,

-c.

Congratulations Cesare. It's all good if you ask me. I'm sure that the
people involved in producing the movie will recommend you to others. It
must be refreshing for those involved in such a cut-throat business to
collaborate with a genuine artist. Well done again and I hope you find
every success in the future.

Rory.

I usually refuse the donation path, but I will accept small royalties.
For really small projects this is often turned down because of the
administration costs involved. You probably got what you could out of
it, since they offered non-exclusive. It means they have no money.
(exclusive is hard to enforce anyway, but lawyers have ways of annoying
people who try, and some even win)

This is a first offering from a new kid on the block. I would hold on to
rights, and give them exclusive for 5 years. That way if this director
ever becomes a somebody you can negotiate residuals after the fact. Just
a thought. You can put a cap on it based on normal royalties if they
insist. (limiting greed is always good)

If you can't afford a lawyer at least buy a book or two. The world of
film is a real lawyers' shark feast.

So where did you post your stuff to get their interest?

Michael

Thank you Michael for the suggestions.

According to my website log, they came from opsound.org (I've posted
three tracks there at least two years ago or even more -
http://opsound.org/artist/cesaremarilungo/).

Best,

-c.
