Subject[Csnd] OT: [very OT] Mavericks question
Hello,

Yesterday I upgraded my desktop to Mavericks. Csound is working as expected, which is great.

But I was wondering if anyone else has experienced what I'm experiencing. The finder has become quite slow at loading up the content of directories. This is particularly the case when I open the file browser from inside an application (e.g. pd, reapers, etc.). Is this a Mavericks thing or has something gone wrong with my machine? (I've checked the disk and permissions and all seems in order on the surface.)

I just thought it's worth checking before I waste a whole day erasing the drive and reinstalling the OS.

Thanks in advance

So it's not just me.  Yes, I have a MacBook Pro that came with Mavericks on it, and I've noticed the same delay in displaying directory contents -- and I have an SSD that's <10% full!  I think I've only seen this in file dialog windows in applications, not in the Finder itself, and it doesn't happen all the time.  I had the same problem more often and with longer delays in Windows, and I seem to remember the consensus being that it had to do with timeouts waiting for formerly connected network drives or something.  I don't know what's going on with Mavericks, but it's hard to believe that displaying a directory really takes that much work, so I suspect that it's related to timeouts somehow.

Hi David,

Thanks for the reply. You've added a couple of days to my life!

I'm getting the delay in the Finder too (when viewing another partition), but only right after the computer starts up. After that, it's just the application dialogues that are problematic. Let's hope apple finds a fix soon.

Best,
Peiman
