Modeling? Like we do here at Line 6. FX or Amps,.... works well. 
Seems to be the 'in-thing' these days.

You are probably missing the profiling part. It is able to capture the
characteristics of any amplifier and save that. Then you can even tweak it
deeper than the original amp, if you like...
