Subject[Csnd] [OT] How do they do it? Kemper Profiling Amp
In the holidays we where in a hotel, one of our friends is a great Dutch
guitar player, John van der Veer.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQp2Ux2xD4o

(We actually jammed together).
We had interesting talks about recording guitars.
He was very exited about this profiling amp, saying he never heard anything
close to it:

I wonder how hey do this? Apparently the process is well kept secret...

Am I missing something or is this just a fancy multieffects processor with the ability to save and recall presets?

i thought it also recorded impluse responses of your amplifiers and cabnets.

You are probably missing the profiling part. It is able to capture the
characteristics of any amplifier and save that. Then you can even tweak it
deeper than the original amp, if you like...

Not only impulses I think. When you listen to the signals they feed through the loop while profiling, it is a broad set of signals.

Hm. Guessing... It could be "just" capturing an ir and refining some eq/compression at the profiling stage (??). Then it combines this with its other effects. They say the amp is profiled 'at its current setting' (don't they? ), so my guess is that the working of the controls of the original amp is not necessarily reflected in the gain/bass/mid/treble/presence controls on the device. Hard to know without trying it out for real of course.
Sounds good though :-)
