I was wondering about that. :-)

I gather that, due to the (stereo) file lengths, and since I want looping, 
the diskins are my only options. I'll try both, though I recall now that for 
some reason diskin2 was preferred over diskin.

Am I correct?

Yes diskin crashes csound if the note is longer than the sound-file  
(with no looping). But for your task both should work well.
