Introducing two incarnations of my latest realtime sonic environments for Csound5 (both available at the top of my list of recent compositions at http://www.arthunkins.com): 1) BROTHER SUN and SISTER MOON - Sonic Environments for realtime Csound5 (2010) All computer platforms. MIDI controller with 8-9 sliders/rotary pots (single controller only) Versions included for the commandline, and Lettuce standalones for Windows only (yes, Rory, I'm still doing Lettuce executables :-). The ZIP archive includes necessary Csound5.06 files for the latter). 2) SUN-MOON MUSIC and SUN-MOON MUSIC MC: Activities for Linux/Sugar (2010) Realtime sonic environments for children (Brother Sun Music and Sister Moon Music), performable on XO computers or via Sugar on a Stick (Sugar >= 0.82). GUI interface. Sun-Moon Music MC allows for Multiple (MIDI) Controllers (for collaborative exploration/performance), Sun-Moon Music requires a single controller The Multiple Controller (collaborative) activity is not available for Sugar 0.82 (i.e., XO-1.0), as Csound 5.10 is required for the -Ma flag, whereas the XO-1.0 uses an earlier version of Csound. Demo .mp3 realizations of the two environments are also posted at www.arthunkins.com. These Activities very much parallel my earlier pair, Our Music and Our Music MC - except that the new Activities do not have an option of ASCII keyboard as controller (it wasn't feasible here). Brother Sun and Sister Moon are inspired by Francis of Assisi's The Canticle of the Sun. Both are closely related to one another as well. They implement a single instrument that simulates 6-7 simultaneous instruments. Brother Sun exhibits a multiple, "double FM" design (as discussed on this list recently); Sister Moon complements this with multiple AM synthesis. The general theme is the interconnectedness of all creation (and the implied necessity for greater stewardship of the environment).
