Hi Dima, Dr. B's first chapter is free online at Csounds.com (his examples are also available for download there as well): http://www.csounds.com/chapter1/index.html
I would strongly suggest purchasing a copy of the Csound book when you can. It's an invaluable resource for not only Csound, but music synthesis as a whole. Hope this helps.

Hi Dima - I'd like to again suggest the link I gave you and thought I'd bring a few things to your attention (sorry in advance if I misunderstood your intentions). The Csound book is copyrighted material (MIT Press) and represents countless hours of work by not only Dr. Boulanger but many of the contributors to this list. The torrent you are referring to is an illegal copy and, of all places, the Csound list isn't the place to advocate stealing this work. Again, sorry if I misunderstood. Just in case, I'll provide a few links so you can legally purchase the book and contribute to the Csound community. You also should strongly consider purchasing the Catalog as well from Csounds.com - it's another great resource for sample orchestra/score files. I cannot believe Dima is back on the forums, and is now talking about a torrent version of the CSound book he has. So first he is verbally abusive on the forums and now he steals from the CSound contributors. Dima, have some respect for the Csound contributors and this forum. Got out and buy the book. This will show your interest in Csound and show your contribution to CSound. On 6/30/10, Dima Bak |

Hi, Dima, do you know how to use interlibrary loan? That's how I first got a copy of the CSound book. Otherwise, if American book prices are too high for you, I would suggest the following free (and legal) resources: - Introduction to Sound Processing by Davide Rocchesso (basic introduction, also mentions CSound in one chapter) http://profs.sci.univr.it/~rocchess/htmls/corsi/SoundProcessing/SoundProcessingBook/vsp.pdf - Music, a Mathematical Offering by Dave Benson (much background information + introduction to CSound in chapter 8) http://www.maths.abdn.ac.uk/~bensondj/html/maths-music.html What kind of music would you like to write? Since a lot of people on this list are working on synthesizing new and unusual sounds, you might need additional software, if you want to produce pop/rock/dance tracks etc. In that case, I would recommend checking out MuseScore http://musescore.org/ (replace the "classical" layout and MIDI instruments by those you need) and lmms http://lmms.sourceforge.net/ Best wishes, Anja Hofmann Send bugs reports to the Sourceforge bug tracker https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=81968&atid=564599 Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here To unsubscribe, send email sympa@lists.bath.ac.uk with body "unsubscribe csound" |

Hi! My card expired and I can't buy CsoundBook. Once I even send 1$ to support csound comunity and test my acc. :-) I wrtite some kind of electronic music, I just created account on SoundCloud and uploaded some of my tracks.( http://soundcloud.com/sounddesign3003 ) So you can make some opinion. LMMS is like FL. It;'s piece of shlak. Muse score feel good, but i have a lot of problem with classical notation. The links for cd-s for csbook is broken, and I can't create ususual sounds further more... 2010/7/1 Anja Hofmann <anja.r.hofmann@web.de> Hi, Dima, |

Ditto, I had forgotten about it. I remember looking through it and being annoyed by one thing (because I have my opinions). With all the explanation of vibrations and frequency ratios, just intonation gets one short section, and then there's a whole chapter on scales. As though music is not possible without scales. It's possible to make music without limiting the frequencies you're going to use to a restricted set. Still, it's wonderful that a version of this is available free! -Chuckk 2010/7/1 Stéphane Rollandin |

It's possible to make music without limiting the > frequencies you're going to use to a restricted set. There is indeed a common confusion between just ratios and tuning systems; see Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Just_intonation It says "just intonation is any musical tuning in which the frequencies of notes are related by ratios of small whole numbers". Then the entry for "musical tuning" says "A tuning system is the system used to define which tones, or pitches, to use when playing music". So this basically says that just intonation is a class of specific scales. I guess the main reason for this confusion is that playing music composed via ratios, with no limit on the number of different pitches to be used, is certainly very difficult in a classical context, especially if it's polyphonic. This is the realm of computers IMHO. cheers, Stef Send bugs reports to the Sourceforge bug tracker https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=81968&atid=564599 Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here To unsubscribe, send email sympa@lists.bath.ac.uk with body "unsubscribe csound" |
