Hi, I've been reading Rick Taube's "Notes from the Metalevel" again. There are some very interesting ideas and concepts in it. I'm not really a Lisp programmer, but I'd like to maybe give it a try. My problem is that the book came without the CD that is constantly referred to in the text. I've made efforts through Amazon, Routledge Publishers, and Mr. Taube, to try and get a copy of it, or at least a website where I can download them. I regret to say that only Amazon was at all helpful..allowing me to return my copy for another one..but it didn't have the CD either! So, assuming there ever was a CD, I'm wondering if someone out there might be able to either provide me a copy, or let me know where I could obtain the files, or at least let Mr. Taube know that he'd make at least one person happy if he'd put the files on his website, or make the CD available through it. Thanks for any and all help. Regarding this, are you using the version of Common Music that is called "Common Music" and that uses Lisp, or are you using the newer version of Common Music that is sometimes called "Grace" and that uses Scheme and/or SAL, an easier to read version of Scheme? Grace comes with a bunch of examples, probably adapted from the Notes from the Metalevel CD. But these examples are in SAL or Scheme. The Grace system includes some examples and tutorial material from the book, but not everything in the book has been translated yet. In case anyone is interested: http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/algorithmic-music-composition-linux-part-1 That article looks into Grace. Following articles will explore Michael Gogins' CsoundAC and Christopher Ariza's athenaCL. That's a simple and attractive introduction, it's interesting to get an introduction to these systems written in a manner so clear that I don't even have to try it in practice to get an idea of how the system works. Looking forward to read more. best Oeyvind 2010/6/6 Dave Phillips |
