Hi,

I am a blind user of Csound. Is there any way to get the book in an alternative format to print, such as HTML? Thanks,

Adam

We had a blind studemt here a couple of years ago and a similar request to
MIT Press was not terribly helpful, if i remenber aright. Publishers are
concerned about letting HTML or PDF versions out as it might stop sales.
Any paruicular part of the book that you want?

Hi John,

I understand where MIT Press is coming from concerning the issue of redistribution of HTML-formatted material such as The Csound Book. Is there any way they could ZIP the book, password-protect it, and e-mail it that way? ...Or would that be too easy a security system to crack?

Adam,

All 45 of the CD chapters are in PDF or DOC format on the HTML CD.
There are 10 tutorials in PDF or DOC format on the HTML CD.

Plus...

Several key chapters from the printed text are also available as PDF
or DOC files on the Data CD.
Chapter 1,2,10,11, 19, 20, 24 and 30

In fact...

Almost all of The Csound Book is in some machine readable form on the
two CDs that come with it.

Finally....

Chapter 1 of the Csound Book is everywhere and translated into several
languages.

Good Luck with your study of Csound. You will find that the CD-ROMS
hold much of the chapter and tutorial materials you need
to get going and get very far.

Dr. B.

PS: I am working with a blind student at Berklee and his Csound is
coming along really well.
He uses the Jaws software on a PC to read the text and read the
frontEnds too. He finds
that Winsound is the best frontEnd for this purpose because, for some
reason, QuteCsound
can't seem to be "read" by his program (yet!)

Thanks for your help, Dr. Boulanger. I look forward to expanding my knowledge of Csound, and I will check out Winsound to see if it will work with JAWS. Thanks again!
