[Csnd] libwiiuse.so (any way to skip loading?)

Subject[Csnd] libwiiuse.so (any way to skip loading?)
/usr/local/bin/bin/csound: error while loading shared libraries: libwiiuse.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I don't ever plan or wish to use this thing. I DON"T UNDERSTAND THIS MSG. Why do I have to go through all these plugins and download stuff I don't need, and rename plugins all the time. Sorry If this email sounds nasty but with more and more releases I end up wanting to break things because none of these things are included, or for some reason I have to rename things. And it's always things I don't use, that "shouldn't" be necessary for general operation. This is only the present obstacle. I wen't through some already.
I... just... don't....

If these things are required to run, why are these things not in the release and named properly? And if they aren't required to run csound why can I not just be given a warning and move on.

really, really frustrated...
please help

p.s. I did go and download this wiiuse thing and i've installed, then copied it everywhere cause csound can't see it, and i'm still smashing my head on my keyboard

once again, sorry if this email sounds rude. I just cannot wrap my head around why more and more of these things are happening with each new RELEASE. This is not a fatal error/exit program condition in my view. But still, why won't...
.. I don't... even.....

?

What OS are you using? And perhaps this was just a mistake in
packaging? It happens, and can be a problem for the person who is
packaging to realize as they may already have this library on their
system and would not see this error.

Did you use apt-get to install Csound from repos or did you download
Csound separately?

I have requested that this message be renamed from an error to a
warning, and it hasn't happened. It is not an error, it should only be
a warning.

If there are no objections, I will go ahead and change the code myself
so that this message is indeed just a warning, and I may even go ahead
and disable the printout by default.

Repeat: this message does not mean anything is actually wrong,
everything will still work.

Subject[Csnd] Re: Re: Re: libwiiuse.so (any way to skip loading?)
Just in case you are interested in what is happening, Csound loads
plugin opcodes and other dynamically loaded modules by scanning
configured directories, loading all shared libraries found, and trying
to open certain named Csound-specific functions. If Csound loads a
library and does not find any Csound-specific functions, it prints
this message. The libraries are then unloaded and the only cost is the
time spent loading the library and looking for the functions. On most
computers this time is truly trivial. And, this only happens if for
some reason non-Csound shared libraries are found in the configured
directory or directories.

The real purpose of the message is alert users, and above people
maintaining the Csound installers or people building Csound from
scratch, that non-Csound files have been found in Csound-specific
directories.

Regards,
Mike

Thanks for the reply. I knew this but It's just that if it's not a core component, can I just have a command-line option to skip through, and run my code, and not be completely rejected. I mean I have this thing installed and pasted everywhere, cause csound STILL can't find it

Actually, I think I misunderstood your original message. I thought you
were saying that Csound scanned this shared library and printed an
error (people have complained about this before, hence my confusion).

But I think what is happening is Csound loads an opcode, but the
opcode can't find a shared library it needs. So, Csound crashes.
That's what happens, right?

Regards,
Mike

I'd recommend using apt-get to download the version that Felipe has
managed if you're on a debian/ubuntu system. It'll have all the
dependencies worked out and couldn't be easier to install.

I will see if there some way to catch these errors and prevent Csound
from crashing. This would only be done while trying to load opcodes
and other Csound modules, not for shared libraries that the Csound
engine itself needs.

Csound 5.11 was uploaded too late for the Ubuntu 9.10 import freeze. I
think you should be able to rebuild the package easily.

Note that the wii opcodes are not enabled (which should not be a problem
for you). I remember John said they were fragile/broken/somethin was
wrong. Also, it needs a wii library not in debian.

If you care about extra unneeded packages installed, you can do this:

Get the source from packages.debian.org/source/csound (dsc, tar.gz and
diff.gz files).
aptitude install pbuilder
pbuilder --create
pbuilder --build csound*.dsc
