[Csnd] runtime library problem with Csound 5.14

Date2011-11-06 13:21

Subject[Csnd] runtime library problem with Csound 5.14
I just installed Csound 5.14 using Csound5.14.2-gnu-win32-d.exe,
overwriting 5.13. Running on Windows 7.

First run, I get a pop-up dialog with the title "FluidSynth: csound.exe
- Entry Point Not Found" and the message "The procedure entry point
_CRT_MT could not be located in the dynamic link library
mgwfltknow_images-1.1.dll".

I use neither the FluidSynth opcodes nor FLTK. What do I do? Not a
reassuring upgrade experience.

You can try removing the fluid synth and fltk .dlls from the plugins
folder and see if that helps. Maybe the windows installer can be
removed from the download list until this is resolved?

Rory.

SubjectRe: [Csnd] runtime library problem with Csound 5.14
Thanks for the hint, Rory. I think I see what the issue is. I looked at
my plugins64 directory and noticed that it contained the following
three files in addition to the set of DLLs I expected:
   save.widgets.dll
   save.virtual.dll
   save.fluidOpcodes.dll
I moved these files into a new subdirectory and the problem went away.
I'm guessing that the installer renamed these older versions when it
installed the new version. If so, this is the wrong way to "hide" a
DLL: one must either change the extension (e.g., widgets.dll.save) or
move them away, as I did. Either way, this is not something that users
should have to deal with. Perhaps this installer was not tested on a
system where 5.13 was already installed?

I see. So users should first delete their old version of Csound and
then install the newer one. I'm sure Mike can easily modify his
installer script to do as you suggest. I just hope too many more
people don't have the same problems.

Agreed. Fortunately it does not affect Csound API usage -- I was able
to fire up the latest blue and do a realtime render with no difficulty
-- but definitely a blocker for command-line users or presumably for
front-ends that spawn rather than use the API.

I don't think the installer creates these "save" files, at least I
have never seen them on my own WIndows 7 computer and I installed and
re-installed Csound many times in the course of developing the various
versions of the installer.

Hi Dave,

Those dll files are the same ones that caused problems when using QuteCsound.
