[Csnd] Csound Manual and Firefox

This has come up in the past, but for awhile I hadn't encountered the problem. As far as I can tell, there is no problem with the Csound manual (html, frames) itself, but Firefox is not able to correctly render it. I've tried several other browsers with no problem, including MSInternetExplorer on Windows 7. They all render the frames version of the manual correctly - but not recent versions of Firefox. Ah, well... -Lou Send bugs reports to the Sourceforge bug tracker https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=81968&atid=564599 Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here To unsubscribe, send email sympa@lists.bath.ac.uk with body "unsubscribe csound" |

When I enter frames view from single pane view, there are 3 visible frames, as you know. One frame is at the top of the window, and contains links labeled "A", "B" etc. There is a large frame directly below, which at first is blank, or is supposed to be blank. When one clicks on one of the letters, you expect that the large frame displays a list of opcodes starting with the letter that you clicked. However, with my version of Firefox, at first the large, blank frame displays a page that reads "Table of Contents", and what follows is a large page including all the TOC headers, followed by the Reference section, which lists the opcodes. If you scroll down that large page you will eventually reach the opcode "dissiaudio". After this the links to opcodes stop, and all subsequent opcodes are displayed as a single gigantic string. I've attached a small screen shot of this, I hope I haven't broken any listserver rules. best, Lou Send bugs reports to the Sourceforge bug tracker https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=81968&atid=564599 Discussions of bugs and features can be posted here To unsubscribe, send email sympa@lists.bath.ac.uk with body "unsubscribe csound" On Nov 15, 2011, at 1:20 PM, Adam Puckett wrote: > Louis, > > What's not working for you? > > On 11/15/11, Louis Cohen |

What version of Firefox do you use? I use the latest version, and it's still problematic for me, so I just view index.html, which shows all the links for me, although I know it's not the ideal solution for most people. On 11/15/11, Louis Cohen |

I'm using Firefox 8.0, which is up to date. When I first found this problem, I had upgraded from FF 3.x to 4.0 I think. I then turned cartwheels to re-install 3.x and the csound manual problem went away. But Firefox has been upgrading rapidly since, and I felt that I needed to take the chance and get current. The result is this problem I'm now reporting. As with you, I just use the single-pane view, or I use some other browser. I keep imagining that the FF developers will find out about this problem and fix it, but I think it may be unique to csound's web structure. The number of links to all the opcodes is very large, maybe there's some limit in FF that was never supposed to be reached. I don't quite know how to report this to FF developers. The obvious links for support don't seem to provide a bug reporting mechanism. -Lou On Nov 15, 2011, at 3:00 PM, Adam Puckett wrote: > What version of Firefox do you use? Victor, when I clicked on your link, I got exactly the same incorrect behavior as when I use the site locally on my own computer. I'm pretty sure that the problem is unique to FireFox beyond v3, on Macs (10.5.8.) I have checked it with other browsers, other platforms, and have not found the problem. -Lou On Nov 15, 2011, at 3:19 PM, Victor Lazzarini wrote: > You mean this? http://www.csounds.com/manual/html/index.html > > I have firefox and it all displays nicely for me. > > Victor > > On 15 Nov 2011, at 19:56, Louis Cohen wrote: > >> When I enter frames view from single pane view, there are 3 visible >> frames, as you know. yes, I am on a Mac 10.5.8, with firefox 3.6, so I guess that is why it works. It's broken for me too, Firefox 8, Mac. I think the reason the letters aren't working after D (A-D work) is that if you look at the page, it's not rendering correctly after D. I'm looking at makeframes.py now to see if the page generation has a bug. On Tue, Nov 15, 2011 at 8:57 PM, Victor Lazzarini |

Steven, The letters A-D don't actually work exactly correctly. When you first switch from single pane to frames view, the lower right pane - the largest pane - should be blank. But with FF8/Mac, this page displays text which should not be there. The target for this pane is not being rendered correctly. -Lou On Nov 15, 2011, at 4:24 PM, Steven Yi wrote: > It's broken for me too, Firefox 8, Mac. Well, all I can say is, A-D work fine here. The contents page though is all screwed up after dssiaudio. You should be able to see the same thing by going directly to the contents page: http://www.csounds.com/manual/html/contents.html and scroll down to dssiaudio. I did see the behaviour you're describing, Steven. But not always. Sometimes I'll see what I described below. In any case, if the generation of the manual can be made more robust that would be wonderful. Furthermore, there are many other options for viewing the frames version of the manual, as I mentioned: basically all the other popular browsers (Opera, Chrome, Safari, MSInternet Explorer.) -Lou On Nov 15, 2011, at 4:54 PM, Steven Yi wrote: > Well, all I can say is, A-D work fine here. I'm giving up on this problem as I spent more time already than I have. Hopefully Andres or one of the other manual maintainers can take a look. That makeframes.py file is definitely a bit heavy handed with how it's forcing font entries and things. On Tue, Nov 15, 2011 at 9:59 PM, Louis Cohen |
